Organization: Sault Area Hospital
Description of Services: Breast screening for early detection of breast cancer in women * community based, comprehensive program that provides complete breast health care for residents of the Algoma district

Screening includes mammography (x-rays of breast tissue) * screening results are sent to both the woman and her doctor

Women who receive normal results are automatically recalled for their next screening appointment * women who receive abnormal results are referred to their doctor for further investigation, or are referred directly for additional tests

Fees: Covered by OHIP
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Women 40 years and older who have no previous history of breast cancer, no breast implants and who have not received a mammogram within the last year * services are also provided to women between 30 and 69 years of age identified as a high-risk
Application: Call for appointment * no referral required for women 50-74 years of age * medical referrals also accepted for women between 30 and 69 years of age for specialized high risk screening
