  • Reports diseases to the Ministry of Health (mandatory reportable diseases, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act)
  • Provides listing of reportable diseases
  • Implements specific measures to control the spread of a disease during an outbreak
  • Provides guidelines to schools and daycares on diseases within facilities
  • Collaborates on infection control policies and procedures in all acute and long-term care facilities
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Control
    • Provides free tuberculosis skin tests and treatment
    • Offers case management, information and resources
    Participates in the following groups and/or committees:
    • Infection Control Committees: improves coordination of emergency preparedness and contingency planning in the event of an outbreak
    • Northwestern Ontario Regional Infection Control Network (RICN): a network of infection control committees
